Policy Associations

A number of professional associations in policy management or related fields have been established. Emerging researchers especially may find membership useful as it provides access to policy ne­tworks, publications, consulting work, training and other areas. An important role for these as­sociations is also to develop norms and standards for policy work.


South African policy associations 

Association of Southern African Schools and Departments of Public Administration and Management (ASSADPAM)
This association aims to: provide opportunities for the professional development of member institutions and the people attached to these institutions, devise systems of quality improvements and monitoring based on agreed-upon international and national standards, and act as a network for continuous learning and development.

Project Management South Africa (PMSA)
PMSA (formerly known as PMISA) was formed to represent project management professionals across all sectors in South Africa. Membership of this organisation would be useful to those working in the field of policy implementation.

South African Association of Public Administration and Management (SAAPAM)
Based at the University of Pretoria, the mission of SAAPAM is to encourage and promote good governance and effective service delivery through the advancement of professionalism, scholarship and practice in public administration and management. Articles on policy and service delivery can be ordered from the association. 

The South African Monitoring and Evaluation Association (SAMEA)
SAMEA aims to build a community to support, guide and strengthen the development of monitoring and evaluation as an important discipline, profession and instrument for empowerment and accountability in South Africa. SAMEA manages a comprehensive information portal.

African policy associations

The African Evaluation Association (AfrEA)
AfrEA aims to contribute to information sharing, advocacy and advanced capacity building in evaluation in Africa. It is an umbrella organisation for national monitoring and evaluation associations and networks in Africa. AfrEA works with the national networks and committed donors, facilitated the development of African Evaluation Guidelines and manages a database of evaluators.
